SmartExtend and SmartSync

SmartExtend

NAS Storage & SmartExtend

SmartExtend is a storage utilization and virtualization technology for network attached storage solutions. With the SmartExtend technology disk space is no longer limited by the number of ATA hard drives a NAS storage system can physically be connected to. When a NAS storage system is running out of hard disk space SmartExtend virtualizes resources from other participating NAS Storage units.

Features

  • Connects to SmartExtend storage solution using Ethernet and IP technology

  • Improved data availability with Automatic SmartExtend Restoration technology

  • Manages user accounts, security settings, quota controls

  • Data backups centrally on the SmartExtend initiator

Benefits

  • Add NAS storage capacity when necessary

  • Manage security controls centrally on the SmartExtend initiator

  • Unified name space – only one server name for easy client access

SmartSync

NAS Storage & SmartSync

SmartSync allows you to synchronize data stored on one NAS storage device to another NAS storage device or even to multiple NAS storage servers. In operation there is a "master" NAS storage device with a 'Local folder for SmartSync' where source files are stored. and there is at least one "slave" NAS storage device with a 'SmartSync Point' where destination files are stored. The "master" and "slave" can also be on one single NAS storage server which is useful for local data replication but the most common  use will be for remote data backup. Any NAS storage device that is reachable on your network (private, public, internet/intranet, etc) is a candidate for SmartSync synchronization. You can setup multiple SmartSync tasks, multiple SmartSync Points, and run them on a scheduled basis automatically without intervention on your behalf. The data is always "mirrored" so when a source file is deleted and the SmartSync task runs next, the destination NAS storage will be instructed to delete that file it has on its drive as well. SmartSync communications are securely transmitted using SSL encryption. You can optionally compress the traffic, limit the bandwidth usage,  enable or disable file security permissions to be retained on the destination, and even setup a filter of include and exclude wildcard filenames.
